People to Know: Shona Heath
I have been meaning to write about Shona Heath for a very long time now. She, and her work, first caught my attention when I read a profile on her in Business of Fashion in December. Since then, I have realized that I have known her for years, and not months, as I previously imagined. It turns out that Shona Heath’s artistic visions and creations have long dominated my, and this website’s fashion community’s, span of attention, in the form of ethereal advertising campaigns as well as our favorite editorials, often shot by the wonderful Tim Walker who is so celebrated on Tumblr.
Shona Heath is a set designer, but more importantly, she is a creator, one who helps make fashion’s fantasies a reality. Her attention to detail is unparalleled, and her work can truly be described as magical. When we view the products of her labors in their still, finished, and seemingly effortless state, we must not forget the mind (and hands) behind the work that made each prop, and the final photograph, possible.
Shona Heath has created everything from bread airplanes for Hermès to hot air balloons for Louis Vuitton. In addition to her set design for the world’s premier luxury brands’ advertising campaigns, she is also known for her work with photographer Tim Walker, and considers shoots with him as some of her career highlights.
